Dr. Ritchie drew the winning ticket while Steffanie Budnick held the bucket.

Avian Health Network would like to extend a huge THANK YOU the Bird Heard for such an outstanding event!   Because of bird clubs and organizations like yours, the birds win!

This event alone raised $5,210.00!  Way to go!

Kathy Bangle spoke on how to give and announced that supporters of AHN have given a total of $55,000 to PDD research in just under 3 years!  This did not include the $4000.00 check presented to Dr. Ritchie during the event on September 9, 2006!  This year alone AHN Supporters have given $21,400 to PDD research!  Our supporters are awesome!

Join Dr. Branson Ritchie on September 9 from 1 to 5PM for Prevent PDD: Picnic In The Park. This event, hosted by the Bird Heard and will be a celebration of AHNs fundraising work. In addition, Dr. Ritchie will draw the winning ticket for the 2006 Birds of A Feather Quilt. All proceeds from the event will be donated to AHN and PDD research. Your ticket will include a barbeque picnic lunch, beverages, desert and a chance at a door prize. There will also be a silent auction, music and much, much more.

Big thank you to the individuals and businesses who have helped to make this event possible. Please help to support the vendors who support PDD research to help all of our birds.

November 2005: 21-29 of this month the Quilt & Pillow coverlet will be on display & tickets on sales at Howard Studios, located in Downtown Lebanon, PA at 738 Cumberland Street. You can also buy your tickets online by clicking here.

Howards professional staff will also donate their skills to provide photographs for Internet & flyer advertising. Limited edition posters will be used as additional fundraisers for the Quilt Challenge. Stay tuned

August 2005 A Special Thanks to all the Quilting Birds! AHN has enough squares for the 2006 Charity Quilt "Birds of a Feather" Quilt Challenge. So many wonder squares came in this year that the Quilting Birds are going to be able to do a quilted pillow coverlet to the match the quilt this year!

July 2006 The 2006 Birds of a Feather Quilt Challenge is starting to plan for the Quilt Challenge tour. If you would like to have the 2006 Birds of a Feather Quilt displayed at your event e.g. shows, bird marts, bird club meetings, craft and/or quilt shows please contact the Quilting Birds for more information as they are developing the 2006 Quilt Challenge Tour Schedule now.

June 2005 Inspired by the 2005 quilt drawing for PDD and due to popular demand, AHN is once again sponsoring a 2006 Birds of a Feather quilt challenge to raise funds for Dr. Ritchies PDD research team at UGA.

Parrot owners and quilters are volunteering their efforts to provide unique quilt blocks to be used in the 2006 pieced quilt This summer the quilt blocks will be pieced together and another generous donor has offered to quilt the quilt and another is providing the materials as well as the labor. Another donor this year has provided the team with printed tickets to use in the 2006 drawing.

Each donated quilt block will be 12.5 x 12.5 inches. The blocks again this year are following the theme of birds of a feather which is back by popular demand. For example a traditional nine patch quilt block was made using cotton fabrics and was themed on the Virginia state bird a cardinal. Another quilt block was prepared to depict a bird house. All birds look for a home to nest in, whether its a man-made house, or a more traditional nest. Macaws, cockatoos, African parrots and cockatiels are some the wonderful drawings that have been submitted and are being worked on. Quilt blocks are as varied as the imaginations of our donors To provide a sneak preview of the quilt, pictures of the quilt blocks and their dedications will be published on the StopPDD website [www.StopPDD.org] by Month, Day, Year.

The quilt layout will remain flexible depending on the number of quilt blocks we receive. However, weve decided that since the quilt blocks are so stunning and to allow them the recognition they deserve, each block will be surrounded by sashing.

Bookmark and keep checking the StopPDD.org website for sneak previews of the quilt as blocks are received and the piecing begins.

If you sew, please think about contributing a quilt block. Information on the 2006 quilt block specifications can be found at http://www.stoppdd.org, then click on the AHNs 2006 Quilt Challenge or contact the Quilting Birds directly via email for the complete guidelines.

Please remember that this project is dedicated to raising money to fund PDD research. Your efforts in providing quilt blocks and/or buying tickets for the quilt drawing will help raise funds for research into the cause of PDD, a test for the disease, and eventually control of the disease. This fight to conquer PDD rests on each of our shoulders so please join us. Together we can make a difference
